RealD Strikes Deals with Russian Cinema Chains Karo Film and Kinomax
MOSCOW -- RealD, a leading global licensor of 3D technologies, has struck deals with major Russian cinema chains, Karo Film and Kinomax, to install over 300 screens in their sites across the country, which has become a key territory for the company.
Under the recently announced deals, RealD Inc. will equip up to 200 Karo Film cinema screens and up to 100 Kinomax screens with RealD 3D technology.
“Having recently opened an office in Moscow, Russia is an increasingly important market for RealD and one we have targeted with ambitious plans for long-term growth,” Michael V. Lewis, Chairman and CEO of RealD, said in a press release.
He added that the agreements with Karo Film and Kinomax meaningfully increased the number of screens committed to RealD 3D in the region.
Installation of RealD 3D technology at Karo theaters has already begun. Kinomax has installed the first nine RealD 3D systems in Rostov, Volzhskiy and Krasnodar, and plans to complete the installation of the remaining 91 systems by the end of 2013, said Dmitry Nartov, Kinomax’s general director.
Karo Film and Kinomax are Russia’s second and third largest cinema chains, with 197 screens and 149 screens, respectively.
