RATINGS RAT RACE: ‘Mentalist’ & ‘Amazing Race’ Finales Down, ‘Red Widow’ Ends Season Up, ‘Celebrity Apprentice’ Hits Low

Sunday night saw three season finales as The Amazing Race (2.3/6), The Mentalist (1.7/5) and Red Widow (0.9/2) wrapped up their runs. The long-running CBS reality series ended its 22nd season with a two-hour finale that was the highest-rated regularly scheduled show of the night. Still, Race dipped 4% from its April 28 show and was down 15% from the 2.7/7 of its Season 21 finale on May 6, 2012. The Mentalist followed and concluded its fifth season with the true identity of serial killer Red John narrowed to seven names. The second-most-watched show of the night, the police procedural bopped up 6% from last week. However, compared to its Season 4 finale on May 17, 2012, Mentalist was down 32%. Earlier in the night, 7 PM’s 60 Minutes (1.2/4) was the most-watched show of the night with 10.50 million viewers, though it fell 20% to a season low. With 9.393 million watching, CBS won Sunday in total viewers, while Fox was tops in adults 18-49.

ABC’s low-rated Red Widow concluded its 8-episode freshman season last night at 10 PM. After hitting a season low and a drama low for ABC this season last week, the one-hour end of the family crime drama, which debuted on March 3, was up 29% from its April 28 show. It is not expected to be renewed. ABC started Sunday’s primetime with America’s Funniest Home Videos (1.5/5), which slipped 6% from last week. Once Upon A Time (2.2/6) and Revenge (1.8/5) were both up over their April 28 shows, rising 10% and 6%, respectively.

Fox intended to begin its Sunday Animation block with a The Simpsons encore followed by a new The Cleveland Show, but a 25-minute overrun from NASCAR (2.3/7) pushed the whole night back. With that said, all ratings numbers and comparisons for Fox’s shows are estimates. A new The Simpson (1.7/5) went to air at 8:25 PM, and was down 19% from its April 28 broadcast. Bob’s Burgers (2.0/5) saw almost as much of a rise as The Simpson saw a fall: The show was up 18% from last week. The double shot of Seth MacFarlane that followed took the same roller-coaster ride, with Family Guy (2.1/5) down 19% from its April 28 show and American Dad (2.1/6) up 11%

Kicking off the night as usual with repeats of The Voice (0.9/3), NBC finished Sunday with a two-hour All-Star Celebrity Apprentice(1.4/4). With one more B-lister sent home by Donald Trump on the two-hour show, Apprentice is down to its final four as it heads toward its May 19 finale. It was also down 13% from last week to tie a celebrity-edition low.
