RATINGS RAT RACE: ‘House’ Ends Run On High-Ish Note, ‘Talent’ Down, ‘Ninja’ Strong

Dr. Gregory House treated his last patient last night when Fox’s medical drama bowed out after eight seasons. The series finale of House at 9 PM (2.9/7 among adults 18-49, 8.7 million viewers) jumped 32% from last week in adults 18-49 and 36% in total viewers to log the series’ best numbers since January. It was below this season’s premiere (3.9/9) and last season’s finale (3.3). The House finale was preceded by a retrospective special (2.0/6).

ABC’s Dancing With The Stars is wrapping what will likely be its lowest-rated cycle. The performance finale last night drew a 2.8/8, up 8% from last week but a series low for a performance finale. At 9 PM, a two-hour The Bachelorette (2.4/6) was down 8% from last week’s season premiere. NBC’s America’s Got Talent (3.1/9) from 8-9 PM was down 16% from its two-hour season premiere last week but still ranked as the top program of the night in 18-49. From 9-11 PM, G4′s American Ninja Warrior (2.4/6) made a surprisingly strong return to the schedule of corporate sibling NBC. The reality series was up sharply from its first airing on NBC last August, when its third-season finale posted a 1.7/4 on the broadcast network. Ninja Warrior also helped NBC edge ABC for the top spot in adults 18-49 last night in a very close finish for NBC (2.6/7), ABC (2.5/7) and Fox (2.4/7). ABC won in total viewers while CBS was out of contention with all reruns.
