RATINGS RAT RACE: ‘Dancing With The Stars’ Hits Low, ‘Voice’ Hits Season High, CBS Wins Night With NCAA Final, ‘Carrie Diaries’ Finale Strong
Between reality and college basketball, there was a lot of live on TV on Monday night. Running from 8 PM-10:01 PM, Dancing With The Stars (2.0/5) kicked off things on ABC. The live two-hour performance show saw some gymnastics, tears and stumbles. Up against the NCAA Tournament championship game and The Voice, it also saw a 9% drop from its April 1 show to hit a season low. That marks the the lowest performance episode ever for the 16-season show. A Castle repeat (1.3/5 ) followed.

The NCAA title game dominated CBS’ primetime. In fast nationals, the NCAA Playoffs Pre-Game (4.4/11) was even with last year, while the game (7.5/19) was down 1% from the final numbers of the final last year and up 7% from the fast nationals for the April 2, 2012 final. Due to the nature of live sports, the numbers are approximate at best and will likely see a larger than usual adjustment in the final numbers. The matchup between winning Louisville and Michigan was up 18% in average overnight household rating/share over last year’s final. In addition to the game, CBS had a double comedy shot with repeats of 2 Broke Girls (2.7/8) and The Big Bang Theory (3.3/9). CBS won the night in total viewers and the adults 18-49 demo.
On NBC, The Voice (4.9.12) entered the final week of blind auditions. Judges Adam Levine and Blake Shelton sparred over who really knows more about country music and fellow judge Usher emphasized the balance between singing and dancing on the 8-10:01 PM live two-hour show. Hitting a ratings high for Season 4, The Voice was up 4% from last week’s show. Monday’s show also ties the rating of last season’s December 18 9-11 PM finale for the highest-rated Voice since March 12, 2012. After hitting a series low last week, NBC’s post-apocalyptic Revolution (2.3/6) bopped up 5%.
The CW’s The Carrie Diaries (0.4/1) wrapped its freshman season Monday. The unsteady Sex And The City prequel was up a tenth from last week’s show, making it the series’ most watched show in a month with 1.1. million tuning in. On Fox, a Bones encore (1.1/3) was followed by a new The Following (2.2/5) at 9 PM. The freshman crime series was even with its April 1 result.
