Ratings: Overnights for SNF's Cowboys-Redskins Clash Mark a 15-Year High

As the Washington Redskins hogtied the Dallas Cowboys to claim their first NFC East title since 1999, the ratings for the Sunday Night Football showdown marked big milestones as well.

SNF‘s Season 26 closer delivered the highest overnights in the seven-year history of the NBC football franchise, with an 18.3 rating and 30 share in metered-market households.

What’s more, NBC reports, that 18.3 represents the best metered-market household rating for any primetime regular-season NFL game on any network in 15 years (since a December 1997 clash between the Broncos and 49ers, which did a 19.6 for ABC) and the best overnight for a Cowboys-Redskins primetime matchup in 19 years (since September ’93).

At the Redskins’ home base, the contest netted a 44.6, the highest regular-season NFL rating for the D.C. market in Nielsen People Meter history, since September 1987. Dallas placed fourth amongst all markets (behind Richmond and Norfolk), drawing a 36.9.

Due to the nature of live sporting events, Sunday Night Football‘s total viewership (which looks to be well north of 26 million) and 18-49 demo rating won’t be reportable until later today.
