Ratings: 'Newsroom' Returns on Par With Series Premiere; 'True Blood' Hits Season High

HBO's "The Newsroom" returned for its second season slightly improving on its series premiere last year on Sunday night, while "True Blood" hit a season high.

The Season 2 premiere of Aaron Sorkin's "The Newsroom," which stars Jeff Daniels and Emily Mortimer, aired at 10 p.m. Sunday, drawing 2.2 million total viewers. That's a 4 percent uptick from last year's series premiere.

Over two plays for the evening, "The Newsroom" drew 2.6 million total viewers.

Meanwhile, "True Blood" at 9 grabbed 4.5 million total viewers on Sunday, making it the most-watched episode of the season. The episode accumulated 5.5 million total viewers.

The vampire series was renewed for Season 7 on Monday.
