Variety Announces 2013 Power of Youth Honorees

Variety has selected Jake T. Austin, Abigail Breslin, Nina Dobrev, Tyler Posey and Quvenzhané Wallis as honorees at its seventh annual Power of Youth gathering, set for July 27 at Universal Studios.

Hasbro is presenting the event, dubbed the World’s Greatest Block Party. The Variety Power of Youth GenerationOn Award recognizes young stars who have made significant contributions to philanthropic or charitable causes. The guest-list at the invitation-only celebration will include children and families who have a connection to the causes embraced by the honorees.

Austin, star of ABC Family’s “The Fosters” and Disney Channel’s “The Wizards of Waverly Place,” is highlighting the Ronald McDonald House. Breslin’s cause is Project Sunshine, which aids children living with medical challenges. Dobrev, star of CW’s “Vampire Diaries,” is involved with Free the Children, which works to empower youth to be agents of change. Posey, topliner of MTV’s “Teen Wolf,” is repping the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Wallis, the Oscar-nominated star of “Beasts of the Southern Wild,” is promoting Teaching Gardens, a non-profit aimed at fighting childhood obesity.

“Celebrating Hollywood’s most influential youth alongside the very people whose lives they’ve impacted is what makes this event so special,” said Variety publisher Michelle Sobrino. “These honorees, in partnership with their individual charities, are igniting change and leading their peers, fans and communities by example. Power of Youth shines a spotlight on these incredible leaders, and hopes to inspire future young entertainers to continue in their footsteps.”
