President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama kicked off the dancing at Monday's inaugural ball with a little help from Jennifer Hudson.

The Oscar-winning actress and recording star dazzled Washington D.C.'s powerful on Monday night with a sizzling, soulful rendition of Al Green's "Let's Stay Together."

It was a groovier selection than Beyonce Knowles' deeply romantic version of "At Last," which was the first inaugural dance song at the ceremonies in 2009. However, Hudson's full-throttle performance couldn't compete with the First Couple -- camera's lingered on their slow dancing, flitting only briefly over Hudson's vocal pyrotechnics.

Hudson wasn't the only big-name performer at Monday's festivities. Jamie Foxx, the "Django Unchained" star and singer, handled the warbling duties on Vice President Joe Biden's first dance with Dr. Jill Biden. Foxx sang Ray Charles' "I Can't Stop Loving You."

Also performing were Brad Paisley, Stevie Wonder and Alicia Keys. Keys changed the lyrics to her song "Girl on Fire" to be more appropriate to the occasion.

"He's the president and he's on fire… Obama's on fire. Obama's on fire," she sang.

The inauguration didn't suffer from lack of star power. During the ceremony, Knowles sang a powerful rendition of the national anthem, while James Taylor and Kelly Clarkson offered their own takes on "America the Beautiful" and "My Country, 'Tis of Thee."

It was a far cry from the inaugurations of George W. Bush, who was never a favorite in Hollywood and saw only modest participation from music and movie stars like Wayne Newton and Bo Derek at his festivities.
