Pilot Scoop: CBS Orders Beverly Hills Cop, Hart Hanson Drama and a Friends-ly Sitcom

Check your tailpipe for bananas now, because CBS on Tuesday ordered a pilot for Shawn Ryan’s Beverly Hills Cop. The network also greenlit a drama pilot from Bones boss Hart Hanson and a sitcom from a Friends producer.

As well-reported last year, the small-screen Beverly Hills Cop stars Brandon T. Jackson as Axel Foley’s police officer son Aaron, who like his dad finds himself walking the Beverly Hills beat. Ryan (The Shield) will pen the pilot, with Marney Hochman as a second EP.

The drama project Backstrom, written and exec-produced by Hart Hanson, is based on the Swedish book series about an overweight, offensive, irascible detective as he tries, and fails, to change his self-destructive behavior. Leif G.W. Persson and Niclas Salomonsson also serve as EPs.

CBS’ lone comedy pilot order (for the day) goes to Friends With Better Lives, from Friends producer Dana Klein and revolving around a group of 30something friends who each think the other has it better. Aaron Kaplan joins Klein as an EP on the multi-cam project.
