Oprah Lands Lindsay Lohan Interview, Reality Series
Lindsay Lohan’s first post-rehab interview will be with Oprah Winfrey, the media titan’s OWN network announced Friday.
The actress will also be the subject of an eight-part docuseries scheduled to air in 2014.
The 27-year-old Lohan’s life has become fodder for tabloid press in recent years, as the former Disney starlet encounters numerous run-ins with the law, stints in rehab and threats of extensive jail time. Her performance in Lifetime original movie “Liz & Dick” last year, where Lohan starred as the late Elizabeth Taylor, was widely panned by critics and drew modest ratings for the cabler.
Lohan’s latest feature, “The Canyons” from Bret Easton Ellis, is slated for an August theatrical bow, the same month that Lohan’s interview with Oprah will air on OWN.
The Lohan interview and reality skein will undoubtedly be a ratings driver for Oprah’s cabler, which has struggled to find consistently strong ratings amid its slate of docuseries, Tyler Perry programs and interview specials.
Interviews with Lance Armstrong and Whitney Houston’s daughter Bobbi Kristina have drawn viewership past the 3 million mark, but these broadcasts remain exceptional one-offs to OWN’s typical ratings, as auds who do not typically tune into the net briefly hop over to the channel before tuning out after the highly-publicized interview special.
Drawing the Lohan interview out into a full-fledged docuseries may help OWN extend the interest of this sample viewer base, as newbie auds return each week to the net to follow the program.
While Lohan herself has not been the subject of a reality series thus far, her family was spotlighted on E!’s 2008 docuseries “Living Lohan,” which ran for one season. Lohan did not partake in the E! skein.
