NBC issued an apology Tuesday after accidentally revealing a huge spoiler Monday night. A promo for the Today show that ran Monday night revealed that Missy Franklin had won the 100-meter backstroke... before the race had actually been telecast.

"Clearly that promo should not have aired at that time," an NBC Sports spokesperson said in a statement. "We have a process in place and this will not happen again. We apologize to viewers who were watching and didn't know the result of the race."

The promo in question showed Franklin holding her gold medal, announcing, "When you're 17 years old and win your first gold medal, there's nobody you'd rather share it with."

NBC has been coming under fire for its tape delay of major events, including USA's first gold medal of the London Games win on Day 1 thanks to Ryan Lochte.
