The Office Boss: Retooled Spin-Off Episode Will Still Air – and Change Up the Dwangela Plan

NBC may not have bought The Office off-Schrute The Farm, but boss Greg Daniels says we’ll still see a tweaked version of the axed planted pilot before Dunder Mifflin closes shop this spring.

Even better, the fact that Dwight won’t continue in a beet-tastic comedy of his own will likely have a positive (read: meet me in the warehouse) effect on his future with Angela as the series wraps.

NBC passed on the much buzzed-about spin-off in October. But Daniels tells TVLine the Office outing that was intended to serve as The Farm‘s first installment is “a very good episode” and confirmed that it will air before The Office‘s series finale in 2013.

“We’re not going to air exactly what it was, because it has certain aspects that were appropriate for a pilot of a new show,” he says. “We’re going to shoot a little additional material to make it fit into the season more.”

As it turns out, The Farm‘s loss may be Dwight’s gain. Daniels says the show had two scenarios for the oddball assistant to the regional manager: One involved him continuing on the new show (presumably without a certain petite blonde cat enthusiast in tow), the other didn’t.

“We’re into the [latter] scenario,” he says.
