VIDEO: Obama Mocks Trump On Leno

Talking to Jay Leno tonight, President Obama blamed the bad blood between himself and Celebrity Apprentice host Donald Trump on youthful “constant run-ins on the soccer field” in Kenya, according to the White House press reports. Earlier today, Trump offered to donate $5 million to Obama’s charity of choice if the President would make public his passport and college records. Leno compared the situation to “me and Letterman. What has he got against you here? I don’t get it.” Obama’s appearance on The Tonight Show will air tonight. This was the President’s fifth visit to the NBC late-night show, and his third since taking office in 2009. Here’s the edited and condensed pool report of his appearance:

At the Tonight Show, President Obama blasted Republican Senate candidate Richard Mourdock’s rape comments, poked fun at Donald Trump, and took a shot at photo identification voting laws passed by several states.

On Trump, Leno asked what’s the deal between the real estate mogul and reality TV show host and the president? Trump offered Obama $5 million Wednesday if he released his college and passport records. Obama told Leno that the beef dates back to when he and Trump were growing up Kenya. “We had constant run-ins on the soccer field,” Obama said. “He wasn’t very good and resented it. When we finally moved to America I thought it would be over.” Obama then told Leno that he has never personally met Leno [NOTE – I think the Pool means “Trump” here not “Leno"] (though POTUS did skewer Trump at a White House Correspondents Dinner with Trump in the audience).

Leno also asked Obama whether he’s asked Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to stay on the job if he’s re-elected. Leno said Clinton has done a fine job. Obama agreed. ”She’s done a wonderful job,” Obama said. “I would love for her to stay.” He added that “Despite my begging” he thinks that Clinton is looking forward to spending more time with her family.”

Responding to questions submitted by the audience, Obama said that trick or treaters can expect to get candy if they knock on the White House door. He added that trick or treaters from Ohio can expect extra large Hershey bars.

Air Force One landed at LAX around 5:30 PM after campaign stops in Iowa and Colorado earlier in the day. Sparing LA the usual traffic snarls when he’s in town traveling via motorcade, the President took Marine One over to Bob Hope Airport. Then, with some road closures, he was driven the remaining distance to the NBC Burbank studio, where The Tonight Show tapes, arriving around 6:10 PM. Also unlike all of the 12 previous visits the President has made to LA — including the last time he was here on October 7 — Obama has no fundraisers scheduled. He is scheduled to leave town for more campaigning in Nevada right after the taping tonight. Michelle Obama, however, will be in town tomorrow for a campaign fundraiser at Will Smith’s house. Tickets for that event range from $2,500-$40,000. The First Lady will do her own late-night TV stop Thursday at ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live!
