NFL Tries to Get Music Superstars to Pay to Play the Super Bowl Halftime Show
Playing the halftime show at the Super Bowl is one of music's biggest and most prestigious gigs. And now artists hoping to receive that honor are being asked to pay for the privilege.
According to The Wall Street Journal, the National Football League has eyed three possible performers for the 2016 Super Bowl Halftime Show: Rihanna, Katy Perry and Coldplay. When notifying respective artists of their candidacy, league representatives also asked at least some of the acts if they would be willing to contribute a portion of their post-Super Bowl tour income to the league. Another option would be for the artist to make some other kind of financial contribution, in exchange for the halftime gig.

This is reportedly the first time the NFL has made any such request.
Last year, when Bruno Mars and the Red Hot Chili Peppers performed, commercial time during the big show was valued at $4 million per 30-second spot, according to the Journal.
Super Bowl 50 will air live on Sunday, Feb. 7, 2016 on NBC.
