News Corp. Christens Education Division Amplify, Gives Peek at Product Line

News Corporation pulled back the curtain and allowed the public to get a look at its education division on Monday.

The new arm of the media giant has been christened Amplify. Led by Joel Klein, the former chancellor of the New York City Department of Education, the company said it will re-imagine K-12 education by creating digital products and services in collaboration with AT&T. The company said it is working on a 4G tablet based learning experience.

It will be part of News Corp.'s publishing division after the Rupert Murdoch's media empire completes its announced split into two separate companies. Klein has been rumored as a possible CEO of the entire division.

In addition to offering up a broad description of its product line, News Corp. unveiled a website with an introductory blog post from Klein, videos about its products and articles on education trends.

"It is our aim to amplify the power of digital innovation to transform teaching and learning and to help schools deliver fundamentally better experiences and results," Klein said in a statement. "Amplify will introduce new products in a thoughtful way, so that technology can finally live up to its promise to advance learning and augment teaching for students, teachers and parents everywhere."
