NBC’s ‘Voice,’ ‘Talent’ Sweep Tuesday Half-Hours in Demos

NBC cruised to victory in key demos on the first Tuesday of June behind “The Voice” and the return of “America’s Got Talent,” though the latter had its lowest-rated premiere to date in young adults.

Nielsen estimates that “The Voice” averaged a 3.0 rating/11 share in adults 18-49 and 10.6 million viewers overall in the 8 o’clock hour, down a bit from its week-ago score in the 9 o’clock hour. And from 9 to 11 p.m., “America’s Got Talent” (3.1/9 in 18-49, 11.1 million viewers overall) edged out its lead-in to rate as Tuesday’s No. 1 draw in both 18-49 and total viewers.

“Talent,” now in its eight season, was down from last year’s premiere (in May) by 14% in adults 18-49 while up 6% in total viewers. The show’s finale last September averaged a 2.4/7 in 18-49 and 10.6 million viewers overall.

Though both “Voice” and “Talent” are lower than we’re used to seeing, it’s hard to knock them since they still tower over just about every other firstrun offering from the broadcast networks since the end of the season two weeks ago.

Fox’s “So You Think You Can Dance” (1.6/5 in 18-49, 4.4 million viewers overall) and ABC’s “Extreme Weight Loss” (1.0/3 in 18-49, 3.8 million viewers overall) both were impacted by the stronger NBC reality competition from 8 to 10 p.m., each declining about 15% from last week’s timeslot premieres.

At CBS, repeats of “NCIS” (1.0/4 in 18-49, 8.6 million viewers overall) and “NCIS: Los Angeles” (1.1/3 in 18-49, 7.8 million viewers overall) were followed by “Brooklyn DA” (0.8/2 in 18-49, 4.1 million viewers overall), which was down 20% (0.2) from last week’s soft premiere; it ran neck and neck with a repeat of ABC’s “Body of Proof” (0.7/2 in 18-49, 4.4 million viewers overall).

Telemundo’s Jamaica-Mexico soccer match drew the largest preliminary audience (2.88 million) for any World Cup qualifier on the network this year.

Preliminary 18-49 averages for the night: NBC, 3.1/10; Fox, 1.6/5; Univision, 1.3/4; ABC, CBS and Telemundo, 0.9/3; CW, 0.2/1.

In total viewers: NBC, 10.9 million; CBS, 6.8 million; Fox, 4.4 million; ABC, 4.0 million; Univision, 3.4 million; Telemundo, 1.9 million; CW, 0.6 million.
