NBC Buys Internet Comedy From Writer Austin Winsberg, Hypnotic & UCP

The impact of the Internet on Generation Y is the subject of iQuit, a half-hour comedy project at NBC from Jake In Progress creator Austin Winsberg, Universal Cable Prods. and Doug Liman and David Bartis’ studio-based Hypnotic. Written by Winsberg, iQuit explores modern relationships through the prism of technology and the challenges it creates in forming real, meaningful connections. It revolves around five friends from UC Berkeley, who – seven years after graduation – find their lives affected in wildly different ways by the Internet. From a guy who made millions selling an app, to a girl who is famous on YouTube (but still works at the local burrito place), to a wannabe politician whose life has been completely ruined by Facebook. Winsberg executive produces with Bartis, Gene Klein and Lindsay Sloane.

This is the second network sale for Winsberg this season. He also is writing/executive producing the Imagine TV/20th TV comedy for Fox The Tao Of Martha, executive produced by Martha Stewart. He also has stage musical First Date going to Broadway next year and animated movie Raj Reddy: Perch And Rescue set up at Warner Bros. He is with Underground, CAA and Warren Dern.
