Nat Faxon To Topline FX’s Andrew Gurland Comedy Pilot

EXCLUSIVE: Nat Faxon has been tapped as the lead in FX‘s untitled comedy pilot by filmmaker Andrew Gurland. The project, produced by FX Prods, centers on a married man (Faxon) and his wife, who are best friends and determined to shake things up in order to save their marriage. Gurland wrote the script and will direct. Following his breakout starring role on Fox’s Ben & Kate, Faxon was in high demand this pilot season, fielding multiple offers. But the actor-writer, who won an Oscar last year for co-penning The Descendants, didn’t want to commit to a broadcast series full-time because of his projects on the feature side, where he also is looking to direct. (He filmed a guest starring/potential recurring gig on ABC’s comedy pilot Spy). A cable series is generally far more accommodating for thesps with busy feature careers.

The Gurland pilot is executive produced by Gurland, Paul Young and Peter Principato. Salamo Levin, who developed the project with Gurland, serves as a producer. Faxon, repped by Innovative and Principato-Young, co-directed, co-wrote and executive produced indie The Way, Way Back, which triggered a bidding frenzy at Sundance, landing a $10 million deal with Fox Searchlight.
