MIPTV Briefs: FremantleMedia, Miramax, Red Arrow International

FremantleMedia is launching a new slate of scripted titles at Mip-TV which kicks off next week in Cannes, France. Among them are Wentworth, the reimagining of Prisoner Cell Block H, and The Making Of A Lady, from Runaway Fridge. Wentworth is a 10-part FremantleMedia Australia production that will premiere on Oz’s Foxtel in May. Event thriller Lady stars Linus Roache, Joanna Lumley and Lydia Wilson and is based on The Making Of A Marchioness by Frances Hodgson Burnett.

Just in time for Mip, Miramax has added execs to enhance its global TV teams. Richard Tulk-Hart has been named SVP, head of TV sales for Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) and Jo Sherlock has joined as VP, TV sales EMEA. The company also said that Emily Briggs has been named VP, digital sales. Tulk-Hart is based at Miramax’s London sales office and joins from Fremantle Media. Sherlock is also in London and was previously head of business development for BT Sport and BT Vision and also worked as director of media distribution EMEA for Disney ABC ESPN television. Briggs is based at Miramax’s Santa Monica headquarters. She is a former Netflix and Comcast exec.

Highlights on Munich-based Red Arrow International‘s Mip-TV lineup include the second season of Steven Van Zandt series Lilyhammer; Israeli Academy Award winner Ananda; fish-out-of-water comedy Hellfjord penned by Tommy Wirkola and just acquired for a remake by Showtime; the René Balcer-created Jo, starring Jean Reno and Jill Hennessy; spy thriller Restless with Downton Abbey‘s Michelle Dockery; and legal thriller The Escape Artist starring David Tennant. On the format slate are Kinetic Content’s The Taste with Nigella Lawson and Anthony Bourdain and game show The Darn Dice.
