Mipcom: ‘The Voice’ Producer Talpa Inks Production Pact with ITV Studios

CANNES — ITV Studios, the production arm of the U.K. broadcaster, and “The Voice” producer Talpa have inked an exclusive production partnerships, which follows ITV’s acquisition of Talpa earlier this year.

The deal sees ITV Studios become the production partner for Talpa formats in Australia and the Nordic countries. Talpa will produce ITV Studios formats in the Netherlands and Middle East. “The Voice” in Australia, Finland and Norway, and “The Voice Kids” in Denmark are covered by separate production agreements and do not form part of the new partnership.

Maarten Meijs, managing director of Talpa Global, said: “A strong and vast international production network is the spine of our content strategy. Utilizing ITV Studios international presence in Australia and the Nordics, and gaining access to their large portfolio of hit formats in the Netherlands and the Middle East enables us to expand our network even further.”

Maria Kyriacou, managing director, ITV Studios Global Entertainment and the rest of the world, added: “This is a great opportunity for Talpa and ITV Studios to make the most of each of our strengths in the international market-place.”

Diana Buddingh, director of global productions, and Annelies Noes, head of global network, will oversee Talpa’s day-to-day cooperation with its global network. ITV Studios Nordic is led by managing director Hans Engholm and ITV Studios Australia by recently appointed CEO David Mott, who joins the business in November. Both will be working alongside Mike Beale, executive VP, global development and formats, ITV Studios.

Talpa’s biggest launch at Mipcom will be format “Dance, Dance, Dance,” which it claims takes celebrity dancing to a new level. The dancers will re-enact famous dance routines from the movies, video clips and live performances. The celebs form a duo with someone they’re close to, offering “explosive reality during the intense training process.”

Talpa says the show uses “revolutionary technology” to mimic the original setting of the performance. Talpa is also launching what it claims is the first-ever synchronized broadcast using an app.

ITV Studios is launching the show “Love Island” at Mipcom. The format, which increased its audience every week during its debut run on ITV2, sees a group of single people head to a luxury villa in the sun in search of love. In order to stay there, each of the contestants not only have to win over the hearts of each other, but also the hearts of the public.
