MIPCOM BRIEFS: SPT Inks Pair of ‘Dragon’s Den’ Deals

Sony Pictures Television has sold rights to biz competition format “Dragon’s Den,” known in the U.S. as “Shark Tank,” for versions that will air in Germany and Spain.

In Germany, SPT’s local unit will produce the local version of the show for private broadcaster Vox, which is part of the RTL Group. The German version, which will go into production in January 2014, will be called “Die Hohle des Lowen,” or “Lion’s Den.” Spanish shingle Pulso TV will produce the Spanish version for Spain’s pubcaster TVE.

SPT’s “Dragon’s Den” deals mark the latest of many local versions for the show, a global hit, already produced in countries comprising Australia, Canada, Russia, and Saudi Arabia. Created by Nippon Television Network Corporation (NTV) and sold internationally by Sony, the show is currently in its 11th season in the U.K. On BBC Two and in its fifth season on ABC in the U.S.

Amazon’s LoveFilm And Germany’s TMG Ink Deal, Expand Ties

European Video-on-Demand unit LoveFilm has inked its second streaming deal with German media group Tele Munchen Gruppe for a substantial package of titles that include the “Twilight” series, “Magic Mike,” “Iron Man 3,” and Woody Allen’s “Midnight in Paris.”

The second pay-window deal will give LoveFilm Germany the exclusive SVOD rights for the select TMG titles across all platforms. It is the second major VOD deal between TMG and LoveFilm in Germany this year.

Deal marks the second volume VOD agreement this year between LoveFilm Germany and TMG for SVOD rights across all German platforms.

Love Films in recent months has inked a slew of content deals with companies including CBS, BBC, Germany’s ZDF Enterprises, Sony Music, Viacom, and Studio Hamburg.

France Gets Homeowners Reality Show “House Rules”

FremantleMedia France has picked up rights from Read Arrow International for a Gallic version of hot Australian reality show “House Rules,” in which real couples compete to renovate each other’s house and the winner gets their mortgage paid off.

“House Rules” has been a hit on Australia’s Seven Network, where a second season is currently in production.

Hit Danish Crime Series ‘Dicte’ To Get Second Season

Denmark’s Miso Film has announced it will make a second series of “Dicte,” the TV series about a 40-something female Danish journalist fighting injustice, the first installment of which is a recent smash hit across Scandinavia.

Set in the modernist town of Aarhus on Denmark’s jutland peninsula, “Dicte” stars Iben Hjejle (“High Fidelity,” “Mifune”) in the titular role. It has reaped record-breaking ratings on Denmark’s TV 2 channel, where six months ago it reached a 49 percent audience share, and also been a stellar performer in Sweden and Norway.

Series two of Dicte is being produced by Miso Film in collaboration with TV 2 Denmark with suport from TV4 Sweden, TV 2 Norway, SF Film, The West Danish Film Fund, and Lumiere in Benelux. The budget is Euros 9 million ($12.2 million). Delivery is planned in the fall of 2014.

France To Become First International Testing Ground For Israel’s Hot New ‘Rising Star’ Interactive Show

Israel’s innovative interactive talent show format “Rising Star” will get its first international version on France’s M6 which inked the deal with Keshet International.

“Rising Star” bowed in September on Keshet’s Channel 2, with a record-breaking 49.9 percent share and also became Israel’s highest second screen participation show through a free app that is fully integrated into the show and has been downloaded more than 1.2 million times, according to Keshet.

In this “American Idol”-like format the social media voters have the most sway as to the whether the new aspiring pop star stays on or not.

Keshet Media Group is the groundbreaking company that created the original “Homeland,” the game show “The Vault,” and buddy sitcom “Traffic Light,” which won an International Emmy in 2010.
