Mipcom: New Brand ‘Grizzy’ Goes To Turner’s Boomerang

BARCELONA– Turner Broadcasting has scooped up worldwide network rights to brand-new toon skein “Grizzy and the Lemmings” for its kids channel Boomerang, now envisage as its second flagship, alongside Cartoon Network.

Re-launched this January, toon cabler Boomerang will debut its first-ever original programming beginning this month. New Boomerang will focus on family, multi-generational auds with new products joining classic brands such as “Scooby Doo,” “Tom and Jerry,” “Daffy Duck,” “Bugs Bunny” and “Mr. Bean: “The Animated Series.”

Structured as a seven-minute-seg series, the dialogue-free “Grizzy” turns on a bear who has taken up residence in a forest ranger’s hut in the Canadian forest, a paradise on earth – the bear thinks – whose occupation is only disputed by a pesky tribe of lemmings.

Paris-based CGI specialist Studio Hari (“The Owl,” “Leon,” “The Gees”) produces “Grizzy.” With its productions broadcast in more than 200 countries, Hari was founded in 2006 by Josselin Charier and Antoine Rodelet.

Series will launch worldwide fall 2016. “‘Grizzy and the Lemmings’ is fun and innovative whilst also maintaining the DNA of a timeless, classic animation. It is a great fit for the Boomerang brand and will sit perfectly alongside content like the much-loved Hannah Barbera classic, Tom & Jerry,” Cecilia Persson, VP acquisitions and co-productions, Turner Broadcasting, said.

“Grizzy” was created by Antoine Rodelet and Josselin Charier, character design is by Bertrand Gatignol; Victor Moulin directs.

“We couldn’t expect to find a broadcasting partner more aligned with the editorial positioning of our latest creation, a new classic physical comedy for the whole family,” Charier added.

Launched in 2000, Boomerang is a Turner global 24-hour toons network for kids and families. Channel screens classic cartoons from the Cartoon Network, Warner Bros., Hanna-Barbera and MGM catalogues. According to Turner sources, channel is now watched in over 144 million households.
