Mel Gibson's stepmother Teddy Joye Hicks Gibson has petitioned for a domestic violence restraining order against the actor, TMZ reports.

According to documents filed in Los Angeles on Monday, Teddy, 78, fears for her own safety. Among the complaints, Teddy says, "Mel became incensed and began acting like a wild man" when trying to discuss the health of her husband, Mel's father. "He was so close that I could feel his spit hitting my face." Teddy also claims Mel and his sister manipulated their father into filing for divorce.

Teddy is asking a judge to block Gibson from evicting her (the house is owned by one of Mel's charities) and that he remain 100 yards away from her at all times.

A hearing has been set for next month.
