Meghan McCain interviews her dad, Sen. John McCain, for Saturday’s episode of her new show on Pivot — and asks him about his gracious concession speech in the 2008 presidential election.

Somehow, this is the first time the younger McCain has interviewed her father, who was the Republican nominee against then-Sen. Barack Obama. In the “Raising McCain” episode, the senator says he wanted to tell his supporters that he not only “accepted” Obama’s election but “supported it.”

“Your confession speech has been credited as one of your greatest speeches of all time,” says Meghan McCain, perhaps exaggerating a bit because, hey, it’s her dad. “How did you make such a difficult moment into something that has turned out to be so beautiful?”

Responds the Arizona Republican: “Well, I thought that that campaign could lead to divisiveness in our country and in our society. So I was especially sensitive to the requirement for me to talk directly to the American people and tell them that they had decided, and not only did I accept that decision, I supported it. I would do everything that I could to work with Barack Obama. I think it’s been to the benefit of the country.”

Since the election, McCain has occasionally faced down Obama but supported him on issues like the crisis in Syria. He also supported Obama’s call for a re-examination of “Stand Your Ground” laws after Trayvon Martin’s death.

The “Raising McCain” episode also features guest co-host Michael Ian Black, Meghan’s mother, Cindy McCain, and her brother, Jimmy McCain.

Meghan McCain also asks her father how Millenials can maintain fulfilling lives while overcoming obstacles.

“We need to stay involved and it doesn’t have to be in the military,” the former POW says. “It can go down to the homeless shelter and try to help out there. Maybe you can just give more to your church or charity. There are a lot of things you can do with your life that doesn’t take a lot of time or effort that you can really give back. Never before have we had the opportunity in civilization to network and communicate with one another the way that we have today. It’s truly amazing.”

“Raising McCain” airs Saturday at 10/9c on Pivot.
