Matt Lauer's Reading Circle: 'Today' Starts a Book Club

"Today" is getting literary -- and Oprah-esque, again.

The morning news and chat show started a book club on Tuesday, selecting Samantha Shannon's "The Bone Season" for its first pick. New selections will follow every month or so, and Savannah Guthrie promised there will be "something for everyone."

Not only is "Bone Season" Shannon's debut novel, but Tuesday is the first day the 21-year-old's book goes on sale. It's about a clairvoyant in a world where clairvoyance is illegal and a totalitarian government rules. "Harry Potter," "Hunger Games" and "Twilight" all rolled into what Shannon plans to be a seven-book series.

This isn't "Today's" first foray into book clubs -- a previous iteration picked "The Time Traveler's Wife" and "No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency." Those books were adapted into a movie and HBO series, respectively, so we may be seeing "The Bone Season" on our screens soon.
