‘MasterChef’ Whips Up Another Wednesday Victory for Fox

Fox’s “MasterChef” dominated the less-than-stellar competition Wednesday night, winning both hours among young adults and helping the net top its rivals on the night for the 20th time in the last 21 weeks.

CBS’ “Big Brother” will provide some stiffer competition beginning later this month, but for now “MasterChef” is cleaning up opposite repeats and low-rated originals on the competition. Last night, “MasterChef” averaged a 2.0 rating/7 share in adults 18-49 and 4.9 million viewers overall in the 8 o’clock hour (down a tick from last week) and a 2.5/7 in 18-49 and 5.9 million viewers overall in the 9 o’clock hour (matching last week).

Fox doubled runner-up ABC in 18-49 and tripled it in 18-34. Univision ranked second among all broadcasters, led by “Amores Verdaderos” at 9 (1.6/5 in 18-49, 4.1 million viewers overall).

Elsewhere, CBS newcomer “American Baking Competition” (1.0/4 in 18-49, 4.6 million viewers overall) matched its low-rated premiere of last week, and was followed by encores of “Criminal Minds” (1.0/3 in 18-49, 5.0 million viewers overall) and “CSI” (1.3/4 in 18-49, 6.3 million viewers overall), the latter of which won its hour.

ABC opened with a repeat of “The Middle” (1.0/4 in 18-49, 4.1 million viewers overall), followed by an original “Family Tools” (0.9/3 in 18-49, 3.4 million viewers overall), a repeat “Modern Family” (1.3/4 in 18-49, 4.5 million viewers overall) and a new “How to Live With Your Parents…” (1.3/4 in 18-49, 3.8 million viewers overall). And capping the night was new series “The Lookout” (1.1/3 in 18-49, 3.8 million viewers overall), which matched last week’s premiere.

NBC was led by 8 o’clock’s “Dateline” (1.1/4 in 18-49, 5.2 million viewers overall), though it was down sharply from last week’s above-average 1.5 demo score. It was followed by repeats of Wednesday regulars “Law & Order: SVU” (1.0/3 in 18-49, 4.7 million viewers overall) and “Chicago Fire” (0.7/2 in 18-49, 3.0 million viewers overall).

Preliminary 18-49 averages for the night: Fox, 2.2/7; Univision, 1.4/4; ABC and CBS, 1.1/3; NBC, 0.9/3; Telemundo, 0.7/2; CW, 0.4/1.

In total viewers: Fox, 5.4 million; CBS, 5.3 million; NBC, 4.3 million; ABC, 3.9 million; Univision, 3.6 million; Telemundo, 1.6 million; CW, 1.2 million.
