Major League Baseball Sets Euro TV Pact with Fox Intl. Channels

Just as Game 1 of the World Series between the St. Louis Cardinals and Boston Red Sox got under way Wednesday night, Fox Intl. Channels set a pact with Major League Baseball that will dramatically extend the league’s TV reach across Europe.

Pact calls for FIC outlets in Europe to carry all MLB games live, from the regular season through the All-Star Game and post-season. The deal begins today with the opening pitch of the 2013 World Series in Boston.

“The relationship with Fox International Channels allows us to expand our relationship with Fox and is an exciting development for our business in Europe,” said Paul Archey, MLB’s senior VP of international business operations. “This deal exemplifies the growing popularity of baseball across Europe and will provide increased access to telecasts for our many passionate fans.”

The MLB pact comes as part of a big push at FIC, which encompasses more than 300 channels across Europe, Asia, Latin America and Africa, to beef up its sports offerings.
