Lionsgate U.K. to Finance Alan Rickman's 'A Little Chaos' Starring Kate Winslet
LONDON -- Lionsgate U.K., the British division of the Canadian giant, will finance A Little Chaos, directed and starring Alan Rickman alongside Kate Winslet and Matthias Schoenaerts.
The costume comedy revolves around a pair of landscape gardeners who compete to design a fountain at Versailles for Louis XIV.
To be produced by Gail Egan, Andrea Caldrewood and Bertrand Faivre and executive produced by Lionsgate U.K. CEO Zygi Kamasa, the studio will act as the main financier of the film and co-produce alongside BBC Films and Lipsync.
Ray Cooper, Christine Langan, Julia Taylor Stanley and Norman Merry also will executive produce.
Lionsgate U.K. will take U.K. distribution rights and handle the sale of U.S. rights to the movie, with Lionsgate International touting remaining rights.
Sales inked include with Transmission for Australia.
Kamasa described the movie as "the perfect project to continue our increasing investment in British films following the success of titles such as Salmon Fishing in the Yemen last year. "
He also pledged to "double" the U.K. division's investment in British films in 2014.
No financial details on the budget or the commitment to production were disclosed.
Lionsgate U.K. released five British titles in 2012, including Salmon Fishing in the Yemen, Ralph Fiennes' Coriolanus and David Cronenberg's A Dangerous Method. Upcoming titles on its slate include Hummingbird, starring Jason Statham; Filth, starring James McAvoy; Ralph Fiennes' The Invisible Woman; The Railway Man with Colin Firth; and Dom Hemingway, starring Jude Law.
