Lance Armstrong's Confessional Interview with Oprah Winfrey Expands to Two Nights

Oprah Winfrey‘s much buzzed-about interview with alleged doper and world-class cyclist Lance Armstrong is now a two-night event.

“Oprah and Lance Armstrong: The Worldwide Exclusive” – a special episode of Oprah’s Next Chapter — now will air Thursday at 9/8c and Friday at 9 pm on the Oprah Winfrey Network. (The cyclist’s interview originally was scheduled for Thursday only.)

Sources briefed on the interview told The New York Times Monday that seven-time Tour de France winner Armstrong did indeed admit to using performance-enhancing drugs during his cycling career.

Winfrey taped the discussion Monday in Austin, Texas, where Armstrong lives. “Just wrapped with @lancearmstrong More than 2 ½ hours. He came READY!” she tweeted afterward.

Winfrey’s talk with the athlete is his first since the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency, in light of a report that accused him of doping throughout his career, gave him a lifetime ban on competing professionally. Not long after, he resigned as chairman of his Livestrong cancer foundation.

Winfrey appeared on CBS This Morning Tuesday to preview the broadcasts and said she was “mesmerized and riveted” by what her subject had to say, but stopped short of giving away too much. “I would rather people make their own discussions about whether he was contrite or not,” she said.
