Ke$ha on 'Die Young' Controversy - UPDATE
Following the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary last week, Ke$ha's single Die Young was taken out of rotation in radio stations across the country, according to MTV News. Now, Ke$ha has responded to the controversy, claiming that she never approved of the lyrics in the first place.
"I understand. I had my very own issue with Die Young for this reason. I did NOT want to sing those lyrics and I was FORCED TO," Ke$ha wrote before adding, "I'm so so so sorry for anyone who has been affected by this tragedy, and I understand why my song is now inappropriate. Words cannot express."

Predictably, since the song has lost airtime, it has plummeted on music charts.
Miley Cyrus, no stranger to controversy, offered encouraging advice to the singer, replying to Ke$ha's tweet with a message of her own, writing, "Don't be hard on yourself. Just a good reminder to always listen to your [heart]."
UPDATE: Ke$ha has released the following official statement on her blog: "After such a tragic event I was feeling a lot of emotion and sadness when I said I was forced to sing some of the lyrics to Die Young. Forced is not the right word. I did have some concerns about the phrase "die young" in the chorus when we were writing the lyrics especially because so many of my fans are young and that's one reason why I wrote so many versions of this song. But the point of the song is the importance of living every day to the fullest and staying young at heart, and these are things I truly believe."
