Former TODAY Show anchor Katie Couric is in Ann Curry's corner.

One month after TODAY's beloved morning coanchor Curry parted ways with NBC's long-running morning show, Couric is predicting the journalist will go on to bigger and better things in her new role at the network.

"Ann has done an incredible job reporting and traveling around the world and bringing some of these stories, these far off stories that aren't covered quite enough, to the American public. So I think she'll go on to do great things," Couric, who will host her own ABC daytime series starting in September, told reporters at a Thursday TCA panel.

Couric -- who left TODAY in 2006 and was replaced by Meredith Vieira -- felt for Curry, 55, when she broke down in tears saying goodbye to colleagues Matt Lauer and Natalie Morales June 28.

"My heart was breaking for her that morning when she was close to tears. You don't like to see somebody disappointed, and when you have that happen on a public stage, it's really hard to be that person and it's very hard to watch," Couric reasoned of Curry, who was succeeded by Savannah Guthrie, who now sits alongside Lauer during the morning broadcasts.

"I really am confident that she will go and do great things and land on her feet," Couric said of Curry, who has since taken on a more varied role at NBC, covering international and national stories -- including the Aurora, Colo. movie theater shooting -- for NBC Nightly News, Dateline, Rock Center and, occasionally, TODAY itself.
