‘Kate Plus 8′ Return, ‘My Big Fat Fabulous Life’ Premiere Score Ratings Wins for TLC

TLC’s Tuesday night lineup of returning series “Kate Plus 8″ and new series “My Big Fat Fabulous Life” gave the network a few ratings wins, especially among the younger-skewing demographics.

“Kate Plus 8,” featuring the return of Kate Gosselin to the network with now tween and teenage children, earned a 1.3 in the cable network’s key demographic Women 25-54 and 1.8 million total viewers at 9 p.m.

But, “Kate” shined with younger demo Women 18-49, scoring a 1.4 rating. That represents a double-digit increase over its catch-up special in June. It also ranked No. 2 in its hour against other cable programs in the demo.

“My Big Fat Fabulous life,” which stars 380-pound viral video star Whitney Thore, scored a 1.0 in the channel’s key demo and 1.3 million total viewers at 10 p.m.

In the younger Women 18-49 demo, it earned a higher 1.1., ranking No. 1 against its cable competition in the demo.

Combined, the show premieres gave TLC the No. 2 slot in primetime, topping Bravo and Lifetime in the Women 18-49 and Women 18-34 demos.

For context, TLC aired 30 shows averaging 1 million viewers or more in 2014. And for the first time since 2011, it had at least two series that averaged 3 million viewers or more. Last year, TLC was a top 5 cable network on Tuesday, Friday and Sunday nights with Women 25-54 and on Thursday night with Women 18-49/18-34.
