Jimmy Kimmel to Receive Variety’s Power of Comedy Award

Jimmy Kimmel will receive Variety‘s fourth annual Power of Comedy award as part of a fundraiser to benefit women’s cancer research.

The host of ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live” will be honored on Nov. 16 at the Avalon in Hollywood with a lineup of standup and sketch comedy performances to raise money for the Noreen Fraser Foundation, which supports women’s cancer research and programs to raise awareness of the importance of early detection efforts.

“Since its inception, Variety’s Power of Comedy event has been extremely successful in uniting our industry’s funniest talent in raising much needed funds and awareness for women’s cancer research,” said Variety publisher Michelle Sobrino-Stearns. ”We’re also incredibly excited to be honoring such a beloved and gifted comedian as Jimmy Kimmel, to celebrate our fourth year.”

Kimmel’s Power of Comedy award follows a banner year for the latenight host, which saw ABC upgrade his timeslot to the 11:35 p.m. big leagues in January. Past Power of Comedy honorees are Russell Brand, Amy Poehler and Seth MacFarlane.

“Jimmy Kimmel has brought us years of entertainment and laughter. We look forward to celebrating with him and appreciate his support of our mission,” said Fraser, founder and CEO of NFF.

Microsoft’s Xbox One is the presenting sponsor of Power of Comedy.
