Jimmy Fallon To Guest Host ‘SNL’ On December 21 As He Ramps Up For ‘Tonight’ Show Takeover
Late-Night Booking Wars: ‘Tonight’s Move To NY Gives NBC More Clout With Star Packages, But Digital May Make Competition Obsolete
Lorne Michaels continues to ramp up for Late Night host Jimmy Fallon’s move to Tonight, announcing this morning that Fallon will host Saturday Night Live on December 21, with one of the show’s most popular music acts (and Friend of Late Night) Justin Timberlake.
In addition to Fallon, Paul Rudd returns to SNL for his third appearance as host on December 7. Not coincidentally, Rudd’s movie sequel, Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, is due in theaters on December 20. One Direction takes the stage for their second time as musical guest that night, which comes just days after their newest album, Midnight Memories is released. Also, John Goodman makes his 13th SNL hosting appearance on December 14; Goodman’s currently starring in the Amazon.com original series, Alpha House and can soon be seen in the 2013 Cannes Grand Prix winning film, Inside Llewyn Davis. Grammy Award winners Kings of Leon make their third appearance as musical guest that night; their latest album, Mechanical Bull debuted September 24 at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 Chart.
But the headline in today’s SNL guest-gig news: former cast member Fallon returning to Studio 8H for his second time as host. Fallon premieres The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, exec produced by Michaels, on February 17. For Justin Timberlake it’ll mark his fifth appearance as musical guest. Timberlake recently kicked off his tour in support of his album The 20/20 Experience – The Compete Experience, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 Chart. He too can be seen in the film, Inside Llewyn Davis.
