J.J. Abrams’ Big Reveal On ‘Star Wars’ Night At ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’

UPDATE with ratings: ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live clocked 3.291 million viewers – the show’s fourth largest Monday audience ever in late night – catering to Star Wars: The Force Awakens fans. In the demo, JKL drew 1.058 million viewers – the franchise’s best demo performance on the night since March 10, 2014. (NBC’s Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon logged 3.973M viewers and 1.424M demo viewers and CBS’s The Late Show with Stephen Colbert copped 2.298M viewers and 609K demo viewers.)

PREVIOUS, TUESDAY AM: It’s a moment you’ve all been waiting for, Star Wars fanatics. The first word uttered onscreen in The Force Awakens is this. Now before we devolve into an Abbott & Costello bit — “It’s this.” “What?” “This!” “That’s what I’m askin’ ya!” — J.J. Abrams revealed that little nugget during the Star Wars: The Force Awakens special on Jimmy Kimmel Live last night when prompted for some little spoiler about the film. Such is the lovable madness surrounding the seventh film in the Star Wars canon. The first word we’ll hear is “this.” And “this” is good. Watch the video above, which includes a 20-second clip from the film.

Jimmy Kimmel also had several Force Awakens cast members on — Carrie Fisher, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver and John Boyega — and asked where they were when they found out they had landed roles in the movie:

You might have heard that the film comes to a galaxy near you on December 18, delivering an early Christmas gift to kids from 1 to 92. Abrams directed and co-wrote it with Michael Arndt and Lawrence Kasdan — the latter having co-scripted The Empire Strikes Back and Return Of The Jedi. Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford reprise their iconic roles from the original trilogy. But you probably know all that, so maybe we’ll just include the latest Force Awakens trailer here as a bonus. Enjoy.
