Hillary Clinton Pancake-Flipping Town Hall Cooks Up Hot Ratings For ‘Today’

Hillary Clinton was a pancake-flipping/question-taking ratings magnet for Today show on Monday. The NBC morning infotainment show thumped ABC’s Good Morning America by 311K in the news demo according to early stats, and by 20K in total viewers. The previous Monday, Today had edged GMA in the news demo by a much smaller 133K in early stats. And, in total viewers, GMA was ahead Today by a commanding 223K according to early numbers.

GMA typically adjusts upward in total viewers to a greater degree than does Today show with final stats, so Clinton’s 20K lead is not a definitive win. But Today’s early news-demo win is commanding and will hold up when final stats come out next week. Expect Clinton to have clocked about 4.7 million total viewers when the dust settles.

The Clinton stats are more good news for Today as the show celebrates a five-week news-demo win – its first in three years. The morning infotainment program has won the first two weeks of the season in the demo for the first time in four years. Today‘s total viewer gap with ABC’s Good Morning America, meanwhile, has been shrunk by 590K.

Good Morning America logged 4.9 million viewers last week and 1.68M in the news demo. Today clocked 4.5 million total viewers and 1.73M news demo viewers. CBS This Morning averaged 3.6M viewers and 1.04M news demo viewers.
