HBO has set the third season return date for Emmy-winning comedy, “Girls,” and the series premiere dates for Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey-starrer “True Detective,” as well as its new gay-centered series, “Looking.”

HBO is offering “Girls” fans a doubleheader when it returns for its new season on Sunday, Jan. 12 at 10/9c with back-to-back half-hour episodes. After that, it returns every Sunday with new episodes.

Alongside creator and star Lena Dunham, returning castmembers include Jemima Kirke, Allison Williams, Zosia Mamet, Adam Driver and Alex Karpovsky. Dunham, Judd Apatow, Jenni Konner and Ilene S. Landress executive-produce the series.

But, before viewers get into the angst of “Girls,” “True Detective” premieres that same Sunday at 9/8c. The much-anticipated series starring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson as Louisiana detectives Rust Cohle and Martin Hart, respectively, whose lives intersect when a bizarre unsolved murder case from 1995 is reopened.

It also stars Michelle Monaghan as Hart’s wife, Maggie, who has to keep her family together as the men around her become obsessed with the case. Produced by Steve Golin and Scott Stephens, the series is written by Nic Pizzolatto and directed by Cary Fukunaga.

“Looking,” which follows three friends in San Francisco dealing with the choices offered a “new generation of gay men” debuts a week later on Sunday, Jan. 19 after “Girls” at 10:30/9:30c.
