The Grinder Enlists Christina Applegate to Play Rob Lowe's 'Old-Fashioned' Ex
Rob Lowe’s Grinder character is about to get a blast from the past, courtesy of Christina Applegate.
TVLine has learned that Applegate has signed on to guest star in Fox’s freshman comedy as an old high-school flame of Lowe’s alter ego Dean.

Applegate’s Boise-bred Kelly Summers possesses an appealing, old-fashioned vibe which Dean finds very refreshing. She doesn’t even own a TV, calling herself “more of a book girl.”
The gig reunites Applegate with Lowe, her co-star in the 2003 flight attendant comedy View From the Top. It also brings the actress back into the Fox fold for the first time since her Married With Children days.
Applegate will appear in Season 1’s fifth episode, which stars shooting in early September. The Grinder, meanwhile, bows Tuesday, Sept. 29 at 8:30/7:30c.
