Gotham Cast, EP: Season 2 Is 'What the Show Should Have Been All Along'

Disregard, for a moment, the bleak fact that The Penguin is running the city: Gotham‘s upcoming second season is going to be a treat for fans of the Batman universe, according to star Ben McKenzie.

“In a way, I think we’re sort of getting to what the show should have been all along,” he said during a stop by TVLine’s Comic-Con interview suite at the Hard Rock Hotel, describing the season’s storytelling as “epic” and hinting that Robin Lord Taylor’s alter ego should watch his waddling back.

“Mr. Cobblepot is the king of Gotham at the moment, but it’s a contentious situation. He’s got to vie for that constantly,” McKenzie added.

During the interview, McKenzie, Taylor and castmates Donal Logue, Cory Michael Smith, Sean Pertwee, Erin Richards, David Mazouz and Camren Bicondova, as well as executive producer Bruno Heller, told Michael Ausiello that the forthcoming episodes will get to the heart of Gotham‘s central concept.

“This season is definitely the season where the origin stories start really kicking in,” Heller said.
