The Good Wife Stars on Alicia and Will's Sexy Court Battles and Cary's Revenge on Kalinda

Thought the tensions were high on last week's episode of The Good Wife? According to Zach Grenier, aka Lockhart/Gardner's tough divorce lawyer David Lee, the aftermath of Alicia and Cary's sudden exit from the firm will be just as ugly.

"After this, it's sort of a civil war. Where there's a huge explosion, things fall on the ground and then you have to pick up the pieces and some of the pieces have to get fought over. Is this mine? Is this yours?" Grenier tells TVGuide.com. "It's like a break-up. It's very personal."

Like a break-up, it looks to be a long road to recovery, as the next three episodes of the acclaimed legal drama (Sundays, 9/8c, CBS) take a closer look at the "The Next Day" and "The Next Week" after the launch of Florrick/Agos. "There are a lot of things going on and there are a lot of relationships that really have to be nursed because they were gashed right open," Grenier says. "And that takes some time."

Despite — or because of — these past relationships, no one will be taking it easy as Alicia (Julianna Margulies) and Cary (Matt Czuchry) continue to fight their old firm for clients, case files and, soon, even in court. "All the passion you've seen up to this point is going to continue, it's just going to continue at 180 degrees," co-creator and executive producer Michelle King says. "They will be fighting each other as hard as they were loving each other."

For former lovers Alicia and Will (Josh Charles), that's especially true when the two go mano a mano in the show's upcoming 100th episode, on a case that "brings up things in their past," Michelle King says. Which means expect for both Alicia and Will to use the other's dirty laundry to their advantage. "They know each other's strategy, so in court they can be even smarter chess players because they're using what they know to attack the other person," co-creator and executive producer Robert King says.

Both of their hearts may be a little bit broken from the events of last week's episode, but Alicia and Will will still find a way to reconnect, even when going up against each other on cases. "They are very of similar mind and you see them go at each other in court and have tremendous mutual respect for one another's minds. She watches what he's doing and he sees how she's one-upping him," Margulies says. "It's almost — I hate to say it — but sexier than a sex scene because it turns them both on to see that each other are exactly where the other one is."

Similar battle lines will be drawn between Cary and Kalinda (Archie Panjabi), especially since Kalinda told Will where Florrick/Agos' new offices were located. "He's going to get her back in another episode," Czuchry says. "Tenfold," adds Panjabi with a laugh.

But because of Cary's days working for the enemy at the State's Attorney's office, the hard-to-read pair have a lot more practice playing for opposite teams. "I think it's going to go back and forth in that way and I think that's what fun about that relationship is they've always had that butting-heads dynamic," Czuchry says. "But they respect that in each other."

Just don't expect to see Kalinda switch sides in favor of Florrick/Agos any time in the near future after declaring her loyalty to Will. "The bottom line is she feels a) betrayed, but also b) like she also betrayed Will because she agreed not to reveal Cary's secret and that left months where she wasn't telling Will what was going on right under his nose," Robert King says. "She finds herself feeling very guilty that she betrayed Will so she's very much in Will's camp."

Adds Panjabi: "She's always had a soft spot for Cary and probably doesn't enjoy doing it, but I think Will has been betrayed by Alicia in such a big way that Kalinda just feels instinctively she needs to protect him. Given where things are right now, I think she owes it to Will to stand by him."

In addition to the ongoing battle between Lockhart/Gardner and Florrick/Agos, even Cary and Alicia may occasionally turn on each other as they work to get their firm up and running. "They're trying to find their way in terms of what kind of clients they should have and in terms of the balance — can we be an ethical firm, but at the same time make money? So there are constant battles. Alicia and Cary butt heads sometimes with that. It's an ongoing process. I think Cary is trying to figure out who he wants to be as well within that context of the firm," Czuchry says. "What you're seeing is these relationships fundamentally change and these two firms battle each other out for everything and that goes for all the characters."
