FX’s ‘Tyrant’ Premieres to 2.1 Million Viewers on Tuesday
FX’s Middle East-based political family drama “Tyrant” drew a little over 2 million viewers in its premiere Tuesday night — a modest number, but not too shabby given the subject matter and lack of star power in the cast.
The story of an unassuming American family drawn into the inner workings of a turbulent Middle Eastern nation averaged a 0.61 rating in adults 18-49 (about 775,000 viewers) and 2.1 million viewers overall for its 10-11:22 p.m. premiere, according to Nielsen. The 18-49 audience was roughly 70% male.
“Tyrant” came in down a little over 20% from the net’s most recent drama premiere, “Fargo,” which opened to a 0.80 demo rating and 2.65 million viewers in April. In total viewers, “Tyrant” is on the low end among FX dramas in recent years, but it does top “Terriers” in 2010 and “Lights Out” in 2011.
FX dramas in recent years have been among the biggest percentage gainers on television when it comes to gaining viewers via DVR playback. “Fargo,” for example, surged 94% in 18-49 and 84% in total viewers from its “Live plus same-day” rating to its “Live +7″ rating (full-week DVR playback), according to Nielsen
Next up for FX is the second-season premiere of “The Bridge” on July 9, followed by the series premiere of “The Strain” on July 13.
