Fox Taps David Hill to Oversee ‘Idol’ and ‘X Factor’
Fox is turning to a trusted News Corp. hand to oversee the overhauls of “American Idol” and “The X Factor” while the network searches for a replacement for outgoing alternative topper Mike Darnell.
David Hill, the former Fox Sports chief, will oversee the two singing competition shows for the network after Darnell exits later this month. Both shows are undergoing major turnover and changes at the judges table. He’ll oversee the shows for the upcoming season but Fox is emphasizing internally that he is not Darnell’s successor and will not be taking on additional responsibilities beyond shepherding “Idol” and “X Factor.”
Hill’s deep background in producing live events made him a natural candidate to jump in to the breech. Hill segued last year to a role as News Corp.’s senior exec veep, overseeing special projects for the company such as the launch of Fox Sports 1 and Fox Sports Japan.
