Exclusive: Suburgatory's Parker Young Joins Fox's Enlisted — Buh-Bye Ryan Shay?

Major spoiler alert, Suburgatory fans: Ryan Shay and his six-pack abs appear to be heading for greener pastures.

TVLine has learned exclusively that Parker Young has landed a series regular role in Enlisted, Fox’s military-themed comedy pilot from Cougar Town cocreator Kevin Biegel.

The single-camera project is based on Biegel’s relationship with his siblings and follows three very different brothers working together in the Army at a small base in Florida.

Young will play Private Randy Waits, the endearing kid brother of Derrick and Pete (The Finder‘s Geoff Stults). Randy’s a gung ho soldier with a heart of gold who unfortunately has a habit of destroying really expensive military equipment.

Suburgatory creator Emily Kapnek recently confirmed to TVLine that Parker’s character, Ryan, would head off to college in May’s season finale. But she insisted the actor would be back next season. “He’s good,” said the EP. “He’s safe.”

But sources indicate that Young’s deal with Enlisted is in “first position,” which means if the comedy gets ordered to series by Fox and ABC renews Suburgatory for a third season (as is expected), Enlisted is his first priority.
