Environmental activist Erin Brockovich has issued an apology for boating while intoxicated after being arrested on Friday.

In a statement issued Sunday, Brockovich, 52, explained the circumstances of her arrest while boating at Lake Mead near Las Vegas.

"At no time was the boat away from the dock and there was no public safety risk. That being said, I take drunk driving very seriously, this was clearly a big mistake. I know better and I am very sorry," she said.

Brockovich was approached by a game warden on Lake Mead when she was observed having difficulty trying to dock her boat. She was arrested after failing a field sobriety test and was later released from the Clark County Detention Center after posting $1,000 bail.

Brockovich rose to fame after her story of investigating a utility company for polluting drinking water was made into the 2000 movie Erin Brockovich, starring Julia Roberts.
