Emmy Host Jimmy Kimmel Previews This Year's Ceremony: 'I Want It To Be Jazzy'
If you like Jimmy Kimmel, then you’re going to love this year’s Emmy ceremony.
The ABC late-night staple told reporters Friday at the Television Critics Association’s summer press tour in Beverly Hills that he will be a very hands-on host.
“I want it to be jazzy,” he deadpanned of the Sept. 23 ABC telecast before adding, “I’d like to be a part of the show throughout. It’s nice to be able to comment on things as they’re happening. Hopefully, I’ll be able to insert myself in the entirety of the broadcast.”
Don’t look for Kimmel to dip into his Jimmy Kimmel Live bag of tricks, however. “I operate under the presumption that no one has seen my show,” he cracked. “I understand that I’m there hosting the Emmys and not some extension of my show.”
Kimmel would neither confirm nor deny that the show will open with an Oscars-type sequence wherein he inserts himself into the nominated dramas and comedies (“I’m planning something special,” is all he’d say).
And unlike this year’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner, where the comedian had to play to an audience full of journalists and political power players — including President Barack Obama — Kimmel said he’ll feel right at home poking fun at his Emmy-attending peers. “It’s human nature,” he said. “[When] you know somebody, you’re able to make a little bit more fun of them without them getting angry. I think that will help me.”
