Ellen DeGeneres gave generous waitress Sarah Hoidahl a $10,000 tip on her show after the New Hampshire server’s kind gesture to two struggling soldiers went viral.

Twenty-two-year-old Hoidahl noticed two National Guard soldiers mulling over the menu at her Ruby Tuesday. The women mentioned that they were furloughed due to the government shutdown and therefore on a budget.

“That just got me thinking,” Hoidahl told DeGeneres. “That’s really difficult, I’m a waitress, single mother, I know how hard that is. And I just decided I’m gonna do something good today, I’m gonna buy their lunches for them.”

Instead of a bill, she left the women a note thanking them for their service and saying she was picking up their tab.

DeGeneres offered to pay Hoidahl back the $27.75 she spent on the soldiers, and Hoidahl was thrilled.

But the best was yet to come. First, DeGeneres handed Hoidahl a new television, as hers is broken and she is unable to watch DeGeneres’ show.

And then she wrote her a giant check for $10,000.

“You’re a good person,” DeGeneres said.

It’s safe to say it’s the best tip Hoidahl has ever received.
