Donald Glover Shrinks Time on ‘Community’s’ Final Season

It’s pretty common to see a celeb in the reality TV world reduce or completely ankle their role on a program in order to focus on their music career: case in point, singing competition judges and coaches Mariah Carey, Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo…the list goes on.

Now, “Community” star Donald Glover’s name has been added to that list — albeit in the scripted realm — as he significantly cuts back his episode count on the upcoming season of the NBC comedy in order to focus on his rap career.

Glover will appear as Troy Barnes in only five of “Community’s” upcoming 13 episodes, as Vulture first reported. This episode cut will allow Glover to focus on Childish Gambino, his rapper stage name. Glover has released independent albums and mixtapes under Childish Gambino since the mid-2000s.

News of Glover’s reduced role in “Community’s” fifth season arrives after show creator Dan Harmon announced he would return to the skein for its final run.

NBC has yet to set a premiere date for “Community’s” final season.
