Deadline’s YouTube Channel Rankings

Soul Pancake’s video of people given a chance to open their hearts to each other paid off in our tally of Google funded YouTube channels for the week that ended on December 5. “Street Compliments” helped the channel to rise 35 slots in the ranking, to No. 16 — the biggest jump by far. Jay Z’s Life+Times also made waves with a behind-the-scenes documentary of the rapper’s concerts opening the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. The channel gained 1.1M views, for a total of 2.7M — taking it up 11 spots to No. 6. The movements took place during a relatively soft week for the channels. Total views fell about 15% to 66.3M. The top 10 channels accounted for 48.8% of the total. Jay Z was the only new entry to the top 10; Noisey dropped two to No. 11.

In addition to Jay Z, the week’s top gainers in views were: Soul Pancake (+847,048 to 1.1M), Nerdist (+581,252 to 1.4M), Cartoon Hangover (+400,945 to 704,740), Sci Show (+304,442 to 1.1M), Numberphile (+270,695 to 805,983). After Soul Pancake, those jumping most in rank: The Thrash Lab (+24 to No. 59), 3V (+23 to No. 57), Above Average Network (+18 to No. 45), Cartoon Hangover (+16 to No. 29), and Cinefix (+14 to No. 41). Those declining most in views: Redbull (-2.5M to 3.5M), The Warner Sound (-1.6M to 7.1M), THNKR (-1.5M to 529,300), Clevver News (-1.2M to 2.0M), and Vice (-1.1M to 2.6M). And those dropping most in rank: Bammo (-37 to No. 102), THNKR (-25 to No. 36), The Chopra Well (-24 to No. 84), Myish (-24 to No. 56), and Townsquare (-16 to No. 92).

Blayze supplies the data for our tally with one exception: YouTube provides views for the shows it funds on Mondo Media. Channels highlighted in beige are the ones that were launched before Google introduced its original channels program in November. Here’s our latest ranking:
