There are a lot of new shows to watch coming out next season, but instead of slogging through the garbage, let the critics make it easier to narrow down which ones are worth watching. The Critics' Choice Awards announced Tuesday the eight new shows that made its shortlist of Most Exciting New Series, and they include a super girl and O.J. Simpson.

38 must-see summer shows

FX's American Crime Story, NBC's Aquarius and Blindspot, Fox's Scream Queens and Minority Report, ABC's The Muppets, CBS' Supergirl and Lifetime's Unreal were all honored as the series the Broadcast Television Journalists Association are most looking forward to. Note: getting nominated for the list is as far as the competition goes; there is no "winner" picked for this particular category.

For the record, last year's list included The Strain, Penny Dreadful, Outlander, The Leftovers, Halt and Catch Fire, Extant and Gotham. So we wouldn't say "most exciting" exactly translates to "best."

The Critics' Choice Television Awards will be broadcast live on Sunday at 8/7c on A&E.
