Comedy Central’s ‘Daily Show’ Stocks Up on New Correspondents

With just weeks to go before the launch of “The Daily Show” under a new host, the Comedy Central program added a fresh group of regular contributors to the retooled proceedings that will be led by Trevor Noah.

Ronny Chieng, Desi Lydic and Roy Wood Jr. will join the ranks of the show’s “correspondents,” who regularly put together field pieces or commentary segments for the program.

They join a roster that includes Jordan Klepper, Hasan Minhaj, Jessica Williams, Lewis Black, John Hodgman, Al Madrigal, Aasif Mandvi and Kristen Schaal.

“The Daily Show With Trevor Noah” premieres on Monday, September 28, at 11 p.m.

Chieng, who has degrees in both law and commerce, is an actor and comedian who got his start in Australia after graduating from the University of Melbourne. He made his U.S. television debut on “The Late Late Show” earlier this year.

Lydic has appeared in comedies on TV and in film. She had a starring role on MTV’s “Awkward” and has also appeared in movies “We Bought a Zoo” and “Babymakers.” Her TV credits also include “Two and a Half Men,” “The League” and “The Odd Couple.”

Wood began his comedy career in 1998 at the age of 19 while attending Florida A&M University. He most recently starred in “Sullivan and Son” on TBS.

The show brings new people to its lineup during an extremely competitive time for wee-hours programming. Comedy Central will face the challenge of launching a new host in a show long associated with Jon Stewart, who stepped down in early August, while Stephen Colbert’s new tenure at CBS’ “Late Show” is getting under way.
